What else to do with straw??

    I've never used straw on a plot but I've worked on farms - round bales are indeed pretty easy to roll around as long as they aren't wet (though of course they will shed like crazy - straw everywhere! and mice may move into them). They flake off in a circular fashion (you unwind them). Be amazing to have one though if it works out more economical. If only I had space!

      Thanks for the replys, really didn't think about using as a path mulch, as I have a fair amount I will use as a mulch everything approach.

      Here is a little progress, the main problem with our allotment is grass invasion.

        So would I be ok mulching around onions(when the have leaf growth)? What about bases of brassicas? Cucubrets? Beans/peas?? So long as there is enough growth to not impede progress?
