    We have a no carpet policy ....my friend took over a vacant plot and when they dug what was like a huge compost heap they found allsorts buried in it including clothes and a big roll of debris netting ....

        That's it - cornstarch! There's something rather poetic about using a film made from cornstarch to keep sweetcorn seedlings warm and weedfree, isn't there?
