I've got a half plot, 175m2 but could easily cope with double that. Unfortunately all the plots being offered now are halves.

Any full plots that are given up are now split into half plots, new members are given an 18 month probationary period, during this time they are expected to make a start, and have 75 % cultivated if not they are given some friendly advice. The secretary visits all the sites about every 6 weeks or so, anyone new or old found not to be abiding by the rules are given 6 weeks to bring their plot up to standard, unless they have informed us of illness or a good reason as to why they haven't been able to work the plot.
Depending on time of year all plots must be 75% cultivated.
No carpet to be on any plot.
If you want a second plot it can be in your partners name, all holders must live within the town boundary when applying and getting plot, if you move out of the area it doesn't mean you have to give it up.Gardening ..... begins with daybreak

That's as may be BM but if the only plots on a site are half size and you're only allowed one then half will become the new full ........btw our full plots are 20 rods and on a lot of sites a full plot is 10 rods so there already is a difference to the standard .S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

An allotment is a set size (1/16th of an acre?). I've always thought that a plot is whatever the body organising the land says it is, ie a new site could be opened with 'full sized' plots that had no relation to the traditional allotment size.Proud member of the Nutters Club.

my veggie patch at home is about the same size as a half plot .... it has a shed, greenhouse, apple tree, pear tree, plum tree, 3 daleks, 2 pallet compost bins and loads of fruit growing around the outside of the patch .... i'm hoping to grow enough fruit and veg to feed 3 of us throughout the year .... it'll be a case of using the ground very wisely, growing all year round (plenty of winter-hardy veg), careful selection of veggies (growing kale instead of cabbage) and careful storing (blanching and freezing etc) .... and of course, taking good care of whatever i plant and letting nothing go to waste .... i'll probably be expanding the veggie patch tho, reducing the lawn ....

We've got a lottie of 1600 ft˛ which is a half plot for our allotment field. This will be our first full year having got it last May. I've put up a 10' x 10' polytunnel, a shed and 2 waterbutts. The rest is divided into 15' strips for rotation purposes. I reckon we're going to pretty much fill it this year - even last year we had a surplus of things like runner beans and courgettes, so in my opinion a half plot is just about the right size for a couple. Are y'oroight booy?
