  • Seaweed - can i make a feed from it?

    Hi guys.

firstly just to say a big 'thanks' for advice on onions earlier in the month - having started mine off in the greenhouse and just planted out, they are AMAZING .

I keep reading about the benefits of seaweed feed, but was wondering if I can make my own using some beach seaweed? If anyone has experienced this I would love some advice. Also can it be used on anything (vege I mean !)

    Many thanks

There are quite a few videos on Youtube about this.

From what I gleaned, the key points seem to be 1) wash the salt off it, 2) chop it up 3) shove it all into a container of water. After a week or two you have nitrogen rich fertiliser.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

I'm doing mostly seaweed feed this year, based on Zazen's results: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ial_63618.html

Great, thanks for that. We are off to Northumbria next week so will be able to get a small bagful. Poor kids will have to put up with the smell on the way home

It smells lovely when you use it, like the sea. Unlike comfrey tea which just smells of sewers

I got a small carrier bag full of LOOSE seaweed a couple of weeks ago in Lincolnshire. It was a coule of days before we came home so I just left it outside near the car until we left. Didn't notice a thing on the journey home. There was more of a lingering smell from the coffee grounds the following week. That's still with us a bit.
