Advice on School Fair Plant Stall :)

Hi all of you.

Hope all is well and you are not getting too frustrated with the cold weather !

I have just agreed to run the plant stall at the school fair and wondering if anyone can give some suggestions as to plants I can sow this week which will look half decent by May 25th.

I'd go for living salad pots personally.

Living salad boxes are quick to show. We do them in mushroom trays, like the ones on sale in Aldi for 99p. Cut and come again (looseleaf) varieties, not hearting lettuces.

Four weeks isn't long to have something looking good, really: having said that, anything that looks a bit green & alive might sell.
Chilli plants are popular, tomatoes of course. Runner/French beans? Sunflowers?

Sweetcorn perhaps.......Should be ready to plant by 25 may and look good.....with the promise of lovely ears of corn in August........

Bonus.....that will have to buy in bulk to create a block!

We have a plant stall each year, the first to sell out are always sunflowers and runner beans, with squash the next popular.
Even if you don't manage to get huge plants by then, there should be enough of a plant to tempt people with.

Just coming back to this - runners and squashes agreed - and also maybe ask on freecycle if anyone has any spares [where they have sown the whole packet] that you can pot up - again toms and peppers would be good here.

You could try perennials. Cadge some clumps and split them up pot them and they should romp away.

Brilliant advice and ideas, many thanks guys. I did start today with some egg boxes - filled them with compost and sowed some salad leaves, will get friends on the job too!! Heres hoping for a bit of warmth to get everything going a bit more!!

Anything 'easy' - sunflowers, beans, peas, salads etc. School sales are mostly about people donating money, not shopping for the best plant bargains. Make them look green and pretty and you'll be away
