just a bit of grass about 2.4 x 1.2m which will be in front of the (to be erected) shed. enough for a chair ir two. plus a sandpit for my 4 year old!

I have a plastic bench that I inherited when taking the plot on. I tend to use it to get up high and sort things out up there (bean frames, etc).

Otherwise, I sit on the edge of my beds if I want to rest.

At our community allotment we have a picnic area, Our site manager with the help of a neighbouring allotmenteer planted up a woven, living willow screen around. - Most of the willow has rooted and coming into leaf now.

Why do I keep reading this title as "Space to entertain on the bottle"?

Nope I have to say that I go to the allotment to grow my food , it's not a social thing for me and there usually isn't anyone around when I'm there anyway.

After 6 years I actually still don't have a chair as I'm not really one for sitting down . I'd just be thinking about the stuff I could be doing, I'd rather just do it and then sit down at home in my garden.

I'm a bit the same as Piggle - I like to go up to the lottie to get the jobs done and then rest afterwards. I have one plastic chair which I do use if it's very hot just for a breather before getting back to it. Never take tea or coffee up there, it's always a bottle of water and a piece of fruit.

Most of the men at the lottie site go up in the mornings and I tend to go after lunch when it's quieter. I wouldn't be one for socialising at the lottie (I do that with friends) but obviously we all do chat and swap ideas and plants etc. Everyone is friendly, I suppose we want to leave it at that - I for one haven't got time for sitting about up there - I do lots of other things apart from the lottie, it's hard to fit it all in!

Our site (not my plot) has a BBQ area and a permanent gazebo with a communal garden area, we have BBQs and Tea parties and there are several chairs & benches its a nice area just to sit and catch up with other plot holders. Ive got a shed on my own plot with a bench outside which is lovely on the rare days i get to spend the whole day there.

Just thought I would add some pics although I have yet to use the area myself. Maybe the next BBQ if the rain ever stops......................

We just took over an allotment in February. Seeing as we have a minute garden at home it was important for us to incorporate vegetable growing and a place for socialising and barbequeing in the summer. We've made a slabbed area by the shed for a table and some chairs and we have put some narrow raised beds around the edges to grow salads. Come the summer we'll be sitting out at the allotment all day long whilst picking and eating the very freshest produce!

We've just taken on an allotment and as we have a raised area we are planning on turning it into the place where we relax and socialise. We are planning on having a shed, patio or decked area, bbq, wildlife pond, table and chairs and the kids want a swing and a swingball set. Our site encourages people to set up entertainment space and as we are a 60 second walk from my childrens school, and very close to home, we stop by everyday and are hoping to make the most of it in the Summer as our garden is small and a bit naff! Its turning into a bit of a community project as many of the mums from school have helped with clearing the site and are all interested in spending time there with the kids after school. Over the weekend the we spent 10 hours there and not once did we have an "I'm bored", the kids slept much better and used their imaginations for playing on our plot (they are very well behaved and respect other plots by the way!) so we want to encourage them to spend time there.

I'd love to be able to build a pizza oven and have a designated picnic area. We can spend whole days up there and with no facilities, we end up driving either back home or to the village pub. It's the difference between having a council allotment and an allotment association one, I feel. The latter are much more relaxed. The council likes no sheds, no greenhouses, no tunnels, no fires, no BBQs, no brewing of drinks, no enjoyment! Then they're happy

Sounds like the council doesn't have enough friends to socialise with and doesn't want anyone else too either! I guess if you were passing on the lottie to another person they mightn't want all the stuff you have....then again they might be glad to have it.
I can't imagine not having somewhere to sit. I've got a large house yard and a farm of course. But when I'm in the garden I like have a sit and a drink (coffee, or a cold drink) and a quick rest. I work out what I'm going to tackle next while I have it. The dogs annoy me to play ball. And then at the end of the day there's nothing better than sitting down with a glass of wine and looking at all you've achieved. I can't imagine having to go home without being able to enjoy it. I even like watching the plants grow in spring! Ali

Oh yes! We factored in a patio and bench at one end of the Allotment. It means the children ( or we) can sit and read/draw and relax. The water butt is a great place to store the odd home made beer too! I often use the patio as a place to sit and chat with friends too, (quietly!) and a barbeque is a must this year, with many plot holders keen to join in.
I have 4 potato bags and a strawberry tub on the patio, so it proves a useful space to grow too.
I think the whole concept of growing is a relaxing hobby, so why not extend the relaxation?

Some people do and some people don't. I have a shed (almost) and a bench to sit on so that I can have a break and some refreshment. I'm usually alone anyway. We are allowed to have BBQ's on our plots.

There is an area where we have an annual BBQ with benches. It's space that couldn't be used for growing as it's next to the fence under some overhanging trees from a conservation area.

I have a table and 2 chairs (came as a set). The live in my shed when I'm not there and are more for convenience than entertainment. I keep a couple of reference books in the car and I have my gardening journals in a cabinet so having somewhere to sit down and have a drink whilst I'm checking things or updating my current journal make life much more pleasant.
