  • What's leisure gardening

Whilst reading through non-cultivation letters (guess what I'm sending out) I've spotted

"leisure gardening and the cultivation of ornamental plants"

    What's leisure gardening then?

A neglected plot on our site has been given to a new tenant rent free for three years because of the neglected state it was in when taken on. The new tenant employed a polish gardener to clear the plot of debris and to erect a 2mtr high fence and a decked area and a new shed. I guess that's doing it the leisurely way

I suppose leisure gardening is gardening for pleasure, not as a business.

          The snippet is from http://www.medway.gov.uk/pdf/Chapel%...les%202012.pdf

          Part 1.4
Not less than 10% of the plot must be used for the cultivation of crops
for the tenant’s own use. The remainder of the plot may be used for
leisure gardening and the cultivation of ornamental plants

Mind you then I noticed 1.3
The Tenant may cultivate vegetables, soft fruit and flowers. Any plants
grown, which produce illegal substances or are proscribed are strictly
          prohibited.

My mother always used to say my father was a weightlifter - he waited while she lifted. Maybe the gardening'leisure is akin to this.

I do the gardening at my leisure, so that's how I'll interpret it for myself, though I am sure it means you don't have to produce edibles

Leisure gardening is when you sit in the garden with a large glass of cool white wine and plan all the next day's jobs!
