  • Wormery disaster

I have had a wormer for over two years with ups and downs but now the grim reaper seems to have killed 90% of them. The heatwave we had seems to have accelerated the process of the wast so it all went into a much. Tried to sort that out with some paper but realised it wasn't helping so I emptied the whole thing including the sump which had turned into a mud bath. Left some in the bottom container and threw the rest in the new scraps I had thinking that the ones in the bottom would leave now it was nicer upstairs. Instead most of them seems to have died and the worm tea is full of dead worms at least they seem dead. Any idea what went wrong after I emptied it. Is the hand full of worms still alive enough to repopulate it or am i better of to start anew. Had quite a big population before this disaster.

    Hi

it doesnt look like there are many vermi folks here. certainly it seems that everything has gone into shock and the wet mess is now a result of the worm deaths, the liquid being from the worm corpses. have you been feeding fresh food or do you compost a few days first?

adding lots of bedding might have helped if it had been earlier, but your best bet is to start again and use what worms that you have left. Go easy on the feed until you're established again.

    good luck
