My cucumber plant, (daughter named it Colin!) looking very sad. Meant to be an outdoor one. I planted it out about 2 weeks ago when it was warm. Any ideas what might be wrong? THanks wise ones

Find out what it's growth habit will be to see how tall it'll grow. What you can do is pinch out the tip like runner beans when it gets to a certain height. It also grows sideshoots, and they'll grow sideshoots etc. I'm not sure when you're supposed to stop the sideshoots, or even if you can see the sideshoots, or whether to bother anyway [I don't, because they're usually such a tangled mess, i don't see where one starts and the other stops or whatever it is.

we have one called Cyril.. isnt that peculiar. Cyril has 2 baby brothers who arent so happy, they're wee things that wont throw the seed case and the seed leaves havent developed properly. Cyril is still a baby too but he'll be going out real soon - if it ever stops raining??
we bought 2 types of small Russian F1 cucumbers, Russian hence Cyril=Cyrillic.
they're good croppers but ours has to contend with north sea breezes, being oop north generally and growing in a pot as we have no soil (at the moment)
Hello Colin (from Cyril)After a long campaign, we've received the plot we asked for..

love the personalisation of cucumber plants... kids and I took it further and have alliterated all the vege. (filled a rainy half term afternoon!) Gives them the incentive to take care of the plants.... though eating Sally Strawberry was traumatic!!!!!!!!!

Ah, Colin is a fighter but struggling. Its touch and go this weekend I think, as it is sooo cold (12 degrees today, midday and set to wild/windy/wet for the weekend. I think if we can make it through til Monday then he may have a chance. Any cucumbers he gives us will be regarded as treasure. Roll on summer, come out wherever you areAttached Filespassionate about plants
