  • Ok I have finally plucked up the courage to post here

After reading these forums for a few months , i am finally going to do my very first post. Back in May i finally had the knock on the door from the lottie chairman telling me that a half plot would be available in October if i was still interested
Well to be honest i nearly snatched is hand off after a 2 year wait , i met him at the plot a couple of days later and was amazed to see a full, well planted plot . Within 30 mins everything was agreed and off i trotted a very happy excited bunny but there was more to come
After a site visit from the committee of the local chapel who own the land that the allotments are on they decided rather than wait until October the plots that were being left to go wild should be allocated asap so the plot owners were contacted and were asked of their intentions and 2 of these decided to give up their plots due to ill health so back came the lottie chairman and asked if was interested in a full overgrown plot that i could take over as of 1 weeks time , after another visit to see the plot i once again agreed but this time came home with a set of keys and my heart thumping with excitement, that was a month ago today and i am loving every minute

Croeso, Lyndon, from another South Walian. No need to be scared, we're all quite harmless really (well.... most of us!). If you've been watching this Forum for a few months, you'll know how helpful people are, even if there are a few Nutters here (naming no names but I could be one .
So pull up a chair and make yourself at home. Look forward to hearing about your progress!

          Hi Lyndon

          Welcome to the Vine.

Looks like you have done all right with your inherited stuff - the plot I took over in July was totally wild as nothing had really been done to it by the previous tenant apart from a bit of rotivating in one section, and some weed fabric down on another.

With a bit of determination (and a couple of willing helpers) it is amazing how much you can do in a short space of time.

Just set yourself manageable goals, like to clear a bed of weeds in a day, and each little victory will be wonderful, especially when you get your first crop in the ground and it starts to come up

          Andy

Hi Lyndon and welcome to the Vine. Great - another Welsh grape to add to out number! Bet you're thrilled to get the plot aren't you - starting out seems a bit daunting but just do a bit at a time. Take photos as you go along so you have a record to encourage you.

Welcome to the vine - I'm one of the nutters
                But a nice nutter!

Our internet is shaped atm so I won't be able to look at the photos yet. Good luck with all the weeds and get some plants in so you can enjoy it.

If you are on a PC with Vista/Win7 lyndon easiest way is to right click on the picture file choose the edit option then when the program opens up theres an option called resize on the toolbar and set it to 75% and if it is still too big drop it down in 5%'s and then set all the pics to that size.
