  • Complaints about noise on allotments

Saturday morning someone asked if we could stop strimming on our allotment site as it was too noisy for them to sit out in their garden.

(It was the orchard area that needed strimming as we haven't yet found a silent way to keep the grass down)

What response would you have had?

And should we all aim to do the noisy stuff after work in the evenings (when I know one of the neighbours will be putting her kids to bed)?

I would have said why buy/rent a house next to an allotment site then?

Anyway anyone is allowed to make some noise eg to cut the lawn or strim the borders between 7 and 11pm (I think those hours are right) so they can't complain. Idiots!

Ask them to buy you a couple of sheep!

Some people justify their existance by complaining.

      Cheers, Tony.

To be fair he's been there longer than the allotment has.

He has previously been very keen on it as the allotment is less trouble than it being open space (youths bonfires fireworks motorbikes etc)

I did resist the temptation to go and mow my own lawn (also next to the allotment) and cut the hedges...

I spose I should really be asking how we can keep the grass down in the orchard area.

Just say you're sorry about the noise, you don't strim every week but it is a necessity as otherwise the weed seeds will blow into his garden.

I'd do that too! And some fruit from the strimmed orchard!

There's only 5 apples! First year of the orchard!

I could post him a photo of the apples

I'd point out it needs doing, when you are able to do it and ask which time would suit best.

If I was on a promise I would never make any noise

I may even consider setting up a weed seed selling farm Or maybe concreting the orchard

It seems as if others feel he can say what he would like and you'll oblige., even reward him with bribery?
What happens if he decides he doesn't like the noise from rotovators/mowers either?

Too much appeasement is not good IMO............there's no need for Aggro, obviously, but these jobs need to be done when it suits the allotment holders - not just when it suits him.
