May be the bit of land at the back of you forms a barrier to stop any sepage from your alotment to the brook i.e weed killer ect.if you said you will give up 2 1/2 rods what would the access be like then to the very small plot at the back of you.if the council say you cant use this area then usally you cant use it so they are left with 2 1/2 rods not much use to anyone else. Hope you get it sorted out in your favour .
