Don't use carpet, use cardboard and then plant straight through in the spring. No need to lift it at all. Potatoes grow underneath and if you still have weeds, you can add another layer and just keep lasagning it.
Carpet really is not good for your soil or wildlife.
Seriously, she's not wrong I used it after we'd struggled the first year, after seeing this advice posted here previously. It works and you can chuck muck, mulch compost over the top. It's amazing how "easy" this method is. I understand that it will not work for the brambles, but it will on couch grass. We have been digging that for years, but putting raised beds in and lasagne method mulching is weakening it down beyond belief.
