Up at the allotment today in lovely sunshine. My little girl has made an insect house from a kit she got at Christmas so I took that up. I have started to dig out a 4 x 2m section for a poly tunnel to go.

PS Why do pictures always go on sideways?
when I click on your photos they are the right way up.
    Location....East Midlands.

Little one and I went to plant the potatoes today. I had put fleece down earlier in the week to warm the soil and I dug trenches yesterday.

We planted 2 rows (approx 40) Maris Peer second earlies, and 1 row (about 28 I think) Arran Pilot first earlies. I planted the Pilots a little closer together but as they are first earlies I don't think that matters as I want them for salad potatoes.

We put a sprinkling of potato fertiliser in the trenches first.

We've been working on the peas this week. On Monday we went up and put up some canes and planted about 150 Douce Provence peas directly into the ground. We went back up today and planted about 20 of these that had been growing in the greenhouse previously. We also planted some purple podded peas.

We put the a polytunnel frame up today. Mum and Dad came up to help and 3 pairs of hands made it quite light work. It was very windy though so we didn't attempt to pu the cover on. I've also ordered some heavier duty anchor pegs.

          Will post a picture later.

              Woohoo! Polytunnel cover is up.

Planted red onion sets this week. Weeded a bed today. Put the poly cover on.

                  June 2013 update

Lots of things growing well and quite a few purple items are doing ok. Weeds are my biggest problem though and they are driving me mad. I did weed a really overgrown path today and put some weed membrane down to try to suppress them.

                  Lots of pictures!
