I bulb planter-ed mine. Have a real aversion to digging. Majority when into raised beds, into a poop. The Sante and Cara, went into open clay.
Ma spotted King Ed Shoots today; all had been in a month exactly. Had a furtle for others. There were roots, but not shoots yet. Intrigued about the Sante and Cara in the clay.

Bins, your potatoes look fantastic. I love the cardboard mulch look. My Wilja have been up for about 10 days and the Sarpo Mira are starting to appear just when I thought I'd killed them by planting them at deep as Chris! They are going to have their work cut out to produce a crop before blight strikes if they aren't resisitant. I usually have to admit defeat by the end of July.
I was very dubious about the idea of using plastic this year as I thought we just weren't getting the weather to warm the soil underneath and there was just a danger of trapping cold and wet in. Too dodgy on the slug front for me, too. I'm struggling with green mulches straight on the soil although it's great for knowing where to look for them and eel worm lavae."A life lived in fear is a life half lived."
PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!
