Should I go to the Allotment AGM?!

So, I am a newbie on the plot, only having my allotment since the start of the year. I have received notification of the Association AGM and am considering going. Will there only be the committee there and I'll stick out like a sore thumb? Will they look at me with a kind of "Why is SHE here? She's only just got a plot?" Or will they try to force a job onto me because no-one else wants to do it?!

Do other people go to their AGM and what is it like?

Yes you must go.

Even if you sit there and don't say anything - you've got to go.

It's unlikely that anyone will force you to take up a role.

It will depend what your site is like what it'll be like. Ask someone.

I would go, ask any questions, no matter how silly they sound, and DONT COMMIT YOUSELF.
It can be a good way of breaking the ice and meeting some your fellow plotters.

No i dont go just because we dont have an AGM or managment committee of any sort's if we did have yes i would go, i'd look at it this way if you dont tell them your views how do they know if there doing the right things,also what would you say if you got a letter telling you they have changed this and that and you are unhappy about it, if you were at the AGM you could have put you points across also it would be be a good way to meet other plot holders

we always go to ours,some of is boring,but,you get to know first hand whats on the agenda,if anything needs voting on,your there to have your say with a show of hand,it's good see how things evolve,you do NOT have to feel pressured into anything your not happy with,even voting,just sit and listen,and learn what goes on behind closed doors,you will be suprised,

We make a social event out of our AGM . It's usually in a pub and we organose food so that in the break we can just chat to others. We try to encourage everyone to come along so that they can have their say on any thing important even if its just a show of hands or the secret ballot for committee members. I say go along even if just to show your face and hopefully get to chat with. some of the other plotholders.

What is an AGM?

I have no idea if there is any sort of committe on my plot - if there is, they do well hiding themselves from view! Would be nice to have some more facilities and a forum to voice concerns and tips - so go for it!

We went to the Parish Council meeting in South Derbyshire where the allotment site is discussed. It was brief. We are currently trying to get an allotment association/group together but lack of interest is proving a sticking point.

I'm shortly due to make my first Chairman's report as chair of our committee. I'm a bit nervous, can cope with a hall full of children but adults are far scarier!
