have just been for a walk onto the field where the new allotments are going to be......OMG, so much back breaking work to be done.
the place is waterlogged, at least 8 inch deep in grass, (lying flat at moment) blackthorn in the boundary hedge has spread about 20 feet into field.

Congratulations on the new site, I suggest advertising a little BBQ or something similar in the summer and getting a load of people to help out

thanks nicos, looks that way........was hoping to get at least a 4m x 2m bed going in the first week, but seems to be a lot more prep than i thought unless parish council do something about it first.
am hoping they will get a tractor on and cut it back a bit, because the still haven't marked out plots yet.

better to make your beds 4 ft wide (1.2m) then you can reach the middle without having to stand on them

Try and make all your beds the same size. That way if you make a netting cage, cloche etc to go over. It's then interchangeable between beds

was going to have 5 beds at 4m x 2m with a 1m path in between and a 1m path the full length of plot down one side. plot is 20m x 5m, am leaving 3m x 5m at top of plot for shed pallet dalek water butts and misc. lol.
