Hi Pete and welcome to the Vine.

Just remember to take things at your own pace and you will do just fine

I've been doing an hour or so after work most days down my new 'lottie' (currently my favourite new word that ) and it's starting to look like something that might become an allotment rather than an overgrownish bit of land:

After having been able to check the plot for a whole sunny day I'm happy with how much sun it gets and is hopeful that I can plant some sweetcorn through the dug over, weeded, cardboarded and manured bed on the right?

Am going to clear the part at the back – it’s mostly brambles so will aim to cut them back and remove as much of it as I can before covering and worrying about it later on. I’m at a loss though as to the bamboo looking tree there, looks like it should just be a part of the brambles but it’s not as it’s nor prickly! I’ve uploaded a pic along with a weed that’s popped up a few places?

          Hi Pete

          Good going so far

That weed of yours looks like a dock to me - has a long tap root like a dandelion, you will need to dig it out rather than pullk or cut it or it will just come back again.
