one week in

Got my allotment last monday after a 6-7 year wait. first couple of days I just sat and planned - couldnt quite believe it. I grow stuff at home but obviously limited space.
the only negative thing about my lottie is that it is bordered on south side by large trees and will be a bit shady but the other folk in same position say that its not too much of a problem.
on the plus side, my plot is slightly sloping so will be well drained. it has mature raspberry canes, a rhubarb (of which we have already had with custard) and a strawberry bed. It is also clear of weeds and ready to go which is a huge positive!!!

My first planting is going to be coriander. Hubby is bangladeshi (and a chef to boot) so we use alot of it. I am also planning to try skirret as an alternative to parsnips. Lots of beans and a couple of pumpkins also

Urgently need to make a compost bin. Its so exciting.

got my coriander, radish and bulls blood beet seeds planted. halfway thro putting up my bean frame which will also support a dudhi at one end. cut the bordering hedge and just got to remove the cuttings to the tip. weather chilly here in shropshire so cannot even think about planting out just yet, but have planted up some kale, oregano , chives and parsley

Duhdi! So THAT's what they are called. I see them in the Chinese supermarket and call them wahooni's. Any fruit or veg I can't identify is a wahooni

I was thinking of skirrit a try, but do not know much about it, is it easy? Where did you get the seeds from?

got the skirret seeds from chiltern seeds but although sown two weeks ago not a sign yet. I just read somewhere that they are slow to germinate.

Could you not compost the cuttings?

Congratulations! Sounds like you've got a good plot and I love all the enthusiasm and excitement in your post. I'm on my first growing year on my allotment and I'm so excited at the thought of the growing season.
