Beetroot apparently likes a slight dusting of rock salt around its feet as it mimics the sea side

Is it not true that the reason Jersey Royals are always clean and slug-hole free is because of the sea weed applied helping the tatties, and the slugs not liking the salt in it?

I'm growing Seakale this year, wonder if it's worth while giving it the 'ring of salt' treatment!

I thought people rinsed the salt off seaweed before application? Maybe I dreamed it?!!
