Whats this "beastie"

Hi all
I have just started digging over my new allotment and I keep coming on a white (ish) grub that is about 3\4 to 1 in long and I suppose about pencil thick.
Anyone able to tell me what they are, or may become.

Can you take a foto John, it'll help no end, could be a beetle lava but it maybe something less welcome!

I found one of them, I threw it on the road so the birds could eat it, dont know what it was though

Same thing Lorna. It could be a few things thats why a foto would help.

Need to see a photo, if the birds ate and lived then they will be happy

Leatherjacket or Chafer grubs - makes no difference - if you find more, feed 'em to the birdies

I too think its a chafer grub as i think it match's the description most accurately.

Well there you go, I never knew that is what a leatherjacket was - horrid things they are! I don't mind really Daddy Long Legs though, except when they flutter about indoors at night evading capture and making all that noise.

Just goes to show, you really do learn something new every day on the 'vine.
