First year I've ever sown them and been successful. Although I only have half up of what I've sown.

I follow the same sowing approach every year for parsnips and have 100% germination every time. Put kettle onto boil (or take a flask) - meanwhile mark out stations at recommended spacings. Pour hot water on stations, a line at a time, sow three parsnip seeds at each stations. Cover with soil. Carry onto next line. I always have to thin each station to one seed. Works perfectly every time. Can't say health and safety gurus would approve!! Last couple of years I have circled a metal rod at each station and back filled with compost before sowing - more time consuming, but had some fantastic parsnips and solved a previous canker problem.
