Maybe something unexpected has come up and he's just not been able to get back yet. Some weeks, we've been unable to get down to our plot from one weekend to the next. Life just gets in the way sometimes.

We were shown round our site and were lucky enough to be able to choose from several vacant ones that were up for grabs. We chose the one that appeared to have been worked the most recently, however, it is still a mammoth task to get it cleared, especially when you both work full time and have over 2 hours a day commuting time as well.

That's a shame. I'm luckly, we have a small site (11 plots) and it's like eastenders- everyone in everyone else's business
We do have a north/south divide though: the Old Boys are up the north end with their neat rows of rotovated brussels sprouts, and the new fangled "young girls" with the raised beds and purple carrots down the south.

took mine over end of april, full of enthusiasm, which hasnt waned just been dented a bit. I garden at home on a sunny site where everything grows like mad. however, my plot is bordered on its SOUTH side by big mature ash trees and a huge lime, and at the back of me (west side) is a largecherry tree. Before I took over the council had been and cut several large overhanging branches and everyone tells me it is now 100 times better. Undeterred I planted all my veg and the only thing that has done well were the strawberries which were already there. we have had pounds and pounds of them. However I am beginning to think that the soil needs some seriois fertilising and that the failure of my veg is down to that rather than being shaded. It is a little disheartening but I am not too disappointed as it is only my first season and I will be applying lots of muck, seaweed etc over the coming months and hoping for a massive gale which might just blow the lime tree down!!!!
