Our digging is on hold until the heat subsides a bit, too.

Me too - it's stupid to try, you will only make yourself ill.

Today was lovely, we had a sea mist come in so it was cool and I managed to dig the patch I really need sorted. Mid afternoon the mist cleared but by then the sun was behind the bean frame so my patch was slightly shaded and I managed to finish it.

I've got a lot of digging to do as well, but the last couple of trips to the allotment I've just done essential things, like a bit of watering, cutting polypipe and netting to size, sitting on a chair watching the birds and insects...

The digging will have to wait it's turn. Summer doesn't last long, a few days rest won't be fatal. As long as I'm ready to sow overwintering onions by August 18th!

Luckily I don't dig, just a bit of hoeing but at this time of year, even that is done in the evening. I try & go down around 7pm for an hour or so.

It doesn't get dark until about 9.30pm.

I've not got much digging to do at the moment, save for digging up spuds, but it's definitely too hot if I did I keep a bottle of water in the shed and some factor 50 suncream and work in 15 minute bursts when I need to.
