  • Happy newbie!!!!

    Just lifted my first good lot of beetroot really pleased and this is only first lot..many more to come. Big smiles.

      Don't know what to do with beetroot cos OH only does shopped pickled beetroot..and don't laugh but she doesn't do dirty veg!!!!!

        She's getting you trained so that you wash the veg before handing it over!!
        I like my beets plain and simple - just boiled, left to go cold and sliced into a brown bread and butter sandwich with a sprinkling of ground black pepper.

          Boiled. With roots and skin on then peeled?..will be trying out over weekend..what about chutney?

            Yep, peel them after they're cooked - and snap the leaves off near the beetroot, don't cut them off or they'll "bleed" when you cook them. If you're only doing a few you can microwave them - like a jacket potato. Much quicker than boiling them.
            I don't make chutney = sorry!

                I'm going to be roasting some this weekend and, hopefullly, getting some pickled in the next week or so.

                    In the oven with a bit of oil and seasoning. Not tried it before but I've got more beetroot than I need this year so I'm experimenting.

                        I parboil them, then toss them in melted honey and balsamic vinegar and bung them in the oven to finish off.
