I'm growing hops for the first time this year - no sign of any actual hops yet though!!
    More about them here http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ops_70202.html
This is a useful website Willingham Nurseries

Thank you veggie, will have a look soon. I`m told it takes a year before you get any hops?

Some of my partners in Hops have some on their plants and we all planted at the same time. They're appearing about now - so I'm still hopeful

We have Brewer's Gold, hought in France 2 years ago. We got a few hops last year and loads this. The growth this year is about 4m - loads more than the kiwi at the other end of the pergola. We are drying then freezing the hops and should have enough for a normal 45 litre brew in few years!

To get hops you need female plants, really the wrong time of year to buy plants, I grow the variety fuggle and the flowers are just begining to form. They are available on eBay as bare root plants in late winter/early spring. Root cuttings take two years to give a good crop. If you sent me a private message around Christmas I could do you a three year old female plant, they are planted out in open ground right now and I couldn't guarantee their survival if I offered to dig one up.

                deconsnurseryfruits.co.uk (search hops)

And a few of the larger seed catalogues do them too. Hope this helps.

PS. Don't expect enough hops for your home brew in the first year, year two before you get a really good crop. I'l try and post a picture of mine later on.

We do ours (or should have done, grrr) just before they start to go go brown. They then go in the sun/airing cupboard to dry.
