Organic or not? And what do you do if someone next to you wants to use weedkillers etc?

I try but don't worry too much, if I use a spray occassionally. It still means my fruit and veg is better than supermarket stuff and my soil is better than if I relied on artificial fertilisers.
I believe that what other people do on their plots is their business - as long as it doesn't drift on to your crops. If it does then they need telling how to do it properly, or not do it at all

The chap opposite my plot, did just that, he has never dug the whole of his plot over ( this is our 3rd year, they were new rough plots),he came up at beginning of May and sprayed the whole plot with weed killer ! It all turned to dead straw! He has not been back since. Apparently he was given notice and was supposed to vacate end of July, but is fighting the 'eviction'! And as he has paid up till March is being allowed to keep it! I have asked if I could take it over, in addition to mine, it's smaller and in the shadow of a walnut tree, I wud have used it differently, maybe a greenhouse or Polytunnel, it it I just left, looking sad. I did post some photos of it some months ago, don't know how to get them up here again, no one is happy about it,such a waste!

I should add that I have very occasionally used a spray to try and get rid of the odd bramble root, this was in the early days of digging over plot!

Regarding organic things we buy, I take all organic labels with a pinch of salt, the agricultural and food industry is full of sharks who quite happily and routinely label food organic when it isnt. If there is a profit in it they will do it. A fully organicaly accredited farmer who has past all the requirements but run out of produce will buy anything cheap in the market and label it organic, who is to know? Also the term free range eggs is a joke, where are these millions of chickens happily roaming the countrysdide? Yet the free range eggs are piled high in the stores. Somewhere we are being conned.
So if you grow your own it is in your hands and yours alone and you know for sure what is in it.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

Given the horse meat debacle I feel confident in saying you can never be sure what your buying.
Don't want to offend anybody again by making assumptions or jumping to conclusions, but that is my opinion.
And if a guy wants to culivate his plot in a different way to you, then apart from saying that you dissaprove, it is his plot and his choice. So unless your going to get all fundamental (or just mental) about it you have to tolerate the idiot."...Very dark, is the other side, very dark."

I would happily use as much Glyphosate based herbicide as it takes to keep my plot clear. It is very safe...ive used it on invasive water lillies and reeds in ornamental, fully stocked fish ponds with no adverse effects at all.
Im just taking over a 2nd "half" plot and it's a mess so im going to spray the lot, dig it over by hand and then spray it againPlease visit my facebook page for the garden i look after

Consequences are most of the diseases
and conditions associated with a Western diet, which include gastrointestinal disorders,
obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s
disease. We explain the documented effects of glyphosate and its ability to induce disease,
and we show that glyphosate is the “textbook example” of exogenous semiotic entropy: the
disruption of homeostasis by environmental toxins

One has to have a sense of proportion on the issue of chemical use, those who would never use them in any circumstances probably happily take all sorts of medication, antibiotics etc, paint their sheds (another so called chemical) use disinfectant, bleach, cover their beds with plastic, drive to their plots polluting the atmosphere, the list is endless.
I would use weedkiller in some circumstances but I wouldnt wave the lance around or use it in windy conditions ect, its called common sense.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html
