  • Grass paths

Last spring I decided I would divide my allotment up evenly for rotation purposes into 5 even plots. I acquired and even bought cheap turf to divide it up, but am really regretting doing so as I waste a lot of time mowing the grass paths, and due to work, I can't always spend as much time at the lottie as I would like so there are more important things to be doing than cutting grass!

Consequently, over the last couple of months, I have been scouring eBay and freecycle for used patio slabs to replace the grass.

Now I have enough slabs, I will begin. What I intend to do is to dig a turf out plus a bit of earth from beneath it, then put the turf grass side down in the bottom of the hole and top with earth and then the slab.

I assume this will kill the grass?

Slabs are a bit soulless to have in such abundance on the lottie, but anything that gives me more time down there to do fruit and veg things is a bonus in my book.
    Are y'oroight booy?

Lift your turf, but instead stack it grass to grass, soil to soil. Next year you will have the most beautiful top soil to use however you like.

Don't waste all that nitrogen in the grass by putting it under slabs. Like Wendy says, use it on the veg
