It depends what you have on your plot tbh. Greenhouses and polytunnels are the most expensive thing that might be damaged, if you have either you should try and make them as secure as possible: make sure that doors can't be blown open, because if the wind gets inside, that's when damage is most likely. I use a big ground spike to stop my greenhouse door being blown open, pushed into the ground right next to the door. Also unscrew any automatic window openers, just in case it's warm/sunny enough at any point for it to open. On the polytunnel, I'll make sure the doors are secured.

Around the rest of the plot, anything loose at all needs to be removed or secured. Any cloche covers should be removed, because unless they're weighed down with huge rocks, they'll take off. Compost bin lids, either weighed down with rocks, or removed. Any pots, trays etc should be put away, and also any big pots unless they're filled with compost.

If you have any fruit trees that are staked, you may want to check that they are securely fixed, or add stakes if necessary.

also,what has other plots nearby got,thats liable to cause you any bother,if the wind blows objects around,also check on any gutters channeling water are not loose,

Check any fences & structures (cages) are sound, throw some guy ropes over your polytunnel if you have one & secure, wedge 2' canes horizontally against frame to hold poly carb glazing in GH (it may blow out). Make sure any plastic sheeting or cardboard is weighed down..Another option to unscrewing auto vent piston is to cable tie the window closed......Can't think at the mo.

Never sure if a polytunnel is safer with the doors wide open at either end so the wind can just blow through or with doors tightly closed, but then it makes a solid obstacle to the wind like a sail! And if just ONE door blows open, then it inflates like a balloon and can be blown off its frame. Anyone any thoughts on this? (Looks like we will be lucky down here and may only have some strong gusts of wind on Monday morning.)

We are taking up our plastic sheeting tomorrow, the wind tends to whip across the plots at the best of times, figure its better to be safe, and we don't want to lose it and we can put it back down again the next day.

Maybe planting windbreaks would be the answer for future storms? Given the the weather seems to be getting weird that is my plan, but useful plants/bushes/trees as hedges.
