On our site they leave it to the committee, who are the worst offenders anyway.

Well don't have a committee, the council allotment officer does an inspection four times a year.
Yes we have rules and regulations - but we use common sense, and discretion - and mostly we have a happy place to do our own thing.

Now there is a job i could do, "allotment inspector"

Not to be allowed to grow fruit bushes sounds rather ridiculous, I would question that, trees I can understand. Do other plots have sheds and G houses? I couldnt function without a shed, its not British.

It's going to be because the council is planning to sell the land some time in the future, and they don't want to be removing a load of trees and deeply rooted plants.

You do make me smile Bill!

Sam, good luck with the plot. I'd take a good look round what other plotholders have done about sheds, fruit bushes etc. I can understand about fruit trees, but bushes?
You asked about varieties of potato - I'd definitely recommend the 2nd early Ambo as one choice. I've noticed a lot of people raving about Lady Christl, which I'm going to try to buy for next year (think it's another early).

That was my suspicion too. Think I'd want to know how far into the future the allotments were workable.

Same here: they are either green manures, or guinea pig food

They are plants that do the same job as horse manure

Would it be a wombat? If so you won't need a rotivator, the d@mn thing will landscape for you, whether you like it or not

Sounds a bit fishy with the fruit bushes. And perennial veg should be allowed, or else just say it's not perennial, just that you haven't pulled it out yet, or it's only been in one year not three?

Hope things get sorted out and you have your plot to go. Have a look around other people's new threads....loads of advice there, you'd be surprised what you might like to do with the plot when you read what some people do.
