New member to the family

I have just acquired a bunny rabbit! He's a lovely little cuddly thing and we've named him Rocky. To any other rabbit owners out there - will he be ok on his own? All I read online is that they like a fellow rabbit with them. I'm happy to get another, but worried about them fighting, especially as this one is not neutered

I've always kept them in pairs, I think they really do need company. Although that said, I had one that had a back problem that had to be kept indoors and hand fed for months. She became very tame and would get nasty if I tried to introduce her to another rabbit. She seemed quite happy on her own but I handled her very often.
If yours is a young female I would have her neutered and introduce her to a male of similar age and size especially if you don't mind keeping two. She will probably be happier.

Oh I definitely have mixed feelings about rabbits, the pet variety are very nice, and this rabbit is lovely. Wild rabbits on the other hand, I'd have no hesitation in shooting and getting them in the pot for dinner. Strange how you can feel so different about the same animal!!

Gotta admit, so far it's surprised me how much I've taken to this rabbit. I'm not really one for pets, but we got this for my 2 daughters (one is 9, the other has just turned 1). I really do think it will make a nice family member! But I'm very much with you there Bren, I love a nice rabbit stew, especially at this time of year. I'll have to make sure I don't get peckish while handling it lol

I've never had rabbits as pets, but there was an article about it in the pet section of the paper the other day, and it was quite firm that you shouldn't have a lone rabbit as it will be - well - lonely! So I think that you need at least one more!

I can't find the article now , so I looked up care of rabbits, and all the guides (RSPCA, Four Paws etc) seem to say that wabbits need wabbits.

My rabbit with the bad back was the same. My husband used to go mad, as soon as he sat down with his laptop the rabbit would jump up and sit on his computer! She had to be banned from the living room when he was around....

My grandson, has just the one and it appears very happy on its own, they've had him for at least 2 years.

We got a rabbit and was advised to get another because they get lonely well all they did is ripped chunks out of each other. We did try several ways to introduce them over a few months but nothing worked and two years later they still fight like they did the first time

Ok peeps, a little thing I've picked up on today. This rabbit is more cuddly than my 1 year old daughter - but only with me. The missus hasn't really held him much yet, and I don't want the kids holding him while he's still a little spooked. But he does seem to have taken to me. So, if given daily handling and plenty of love, will this rabbit live a happy life, without needing another rabbit?

Hmm, you may never know for sure but the one I had to hand feed (wash and blow dry with a hair dryer!) loved human company. If's she's already bonded with you and you are prepared to spend time with her everyday my guess is she will be happy enough.

Maybe you willl find a friend or neighbour with a rabbit and you could visit for playdays.
