  • potatoes.

    hi all. is it possible to use shop brought potatoes
    to grow when they have gone to seed.
    as a late potato we like Desiree,
    would these be ok to start some time in 2014. for my winter spuds.

    You can use shop bought potatoes as seed Sam. Keep them cool until you are ready to sprout them.

      If they start sprouting early Sam, just rub them off. Not sure what you mean by "Winter Spuds" though.

        by winter spuds I mean, autumn winter,
        we use them for roasting.
        summer time we like new potatoes, either for salads or boiled.

          I used cyprus potatoes bought from my local supermarket this year and they did reasonably well.

            Ok, as they are a maincrop variety, chitting them is not important, they will still grow. Just plant them after risk of the last frost (around April/May time). I grew King Edwards last year, none of them chitted but had a fab crop.
