  • More upheaval

Ok iv'e had a year on plot one which has proved to be an eye opener when it comes to uncovering issues of one sort or another but after a year of horse poo and digging even though the plot is wet it is ready as it will ever be for this season.

Well not quite as I was informed the other week that the plot is wet because the water is backing up of disused waste area at the back of the plot and the pipe that carries the land water of the site which then runs through my plot is also backed up and blocked.

So the council are comming to dig up the pipe running to the waste land to see why we are getting a back flow from there and the pipe running of the site is to be presure washed to try and clear the blockage and if not it will need digging up to discover why it has become blocked.

Either way it looks like a lot of upheaval and disruption to number one plot which i'm thinking will put the plot out of use for a few months. My daughter is not to happy as she has the other half of my plot and was looking to spend time there with the grandkids but if the pipes are being dug up this will cause a safety risk for the kids.

The work needs doing but i'm a bit miffed as the plot was not too productive last year I have paid the rent for this year and I won't get any return on the outlay already.

At least I have plot two and hopefully I can negaotiate a rent free few months or more for next year if things drag out.

Hopefully plot two will pay dividends for you. Poor you, what rotten luck

Hope it is sorted with the minimum of inconvenience but you are right, it does need sorting & hopefully for good.

Can you ask for a refund for the amount of time your plot will be out of action?

I won't know how long the work will be going on for until they come and start exploring. I don't pay much for my plots £30 for plot one so a refund really isn't an issue and the site is local to me.

I've also not been given a date for the work to start and how much digging will be done or what corrective measures will be taken to bring my plot back into usable condition for this year ( IF ANY. )

As both my plots are small plots the plan was plot 2 for legumes fruit and pos potatoes and plot one for brasica's but can't even think about brasicas now even though i've already bought the seeds.

Oh well if things don't improve I think I will get my name down for another site.

I think the most important thing you need to do is find out when they are going to do it and then best/worse case senario regarding what they will be doing. Once you know that you can at least make plans.

If pipes are to be dug up,am I right in thinking heavy machinery will be brought on site? Is this going to affect other plot holders? Don't rush into moving site if you are happy where you are & have worked the land. At least you have your 2nd plot, others may not be so lucky.

You should still have time for your Autumn/winter brassicas if you start them in modules, just pot them on if necessary - plant out when the jobs done.

The machinery will only affect my plot due to it's location. It's difficult to get any concrete information on when they will start as they are waiting for the ground to dry out and as the vacant plot acros from me is a swamp that could take some time.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that there is not to much upheaval and they drop some top soil of to enable me to get the ground back up to scratch.

I will keeop you all posted on the progress

When drain work had to be undertaken at the top of our site the 2 plots affected also lost a fruit tree each, they were bought new trees as replacements and were given three years rent free (£21 per year for us) for their inconvenience. I think it's worth negotiating

Can you grow at least some stuff in containers on that plot (cabbages/brussels in buckets maybe ?),obviously they would have to be movable but at least it would give you some sort of return.

With the layout and poor return last year i'm not looking to throw more cash at this plot at this moment but it's an idea I have toyed with though. I think it's a lets wait and see what happens time
