  • Need a mail order supplier of compost

    Hi
I need bagged compost for use in my greenhouse, the likes of Westland or similar in 80L bags.
Can't seem to find many companies selling the stuff online or with low delivery costs.
I notice Wilko sell Gro Sure peat free but only in 25L bags which works out expensive as I will be buying around 300L.
B&Q don’t advertise anything other than a few bags of Miracle Gro and Verve, the latter which I found to be appalling stuff and will never use again.
Also, I will not entertain buying cheap stuff (unbranded) as a few years ago I bought some dubious compost from a local garden supplies shop which was riddled with thousands of tiny creepy crawlies!

Will your local garden centre deliver?

Without thravelling to outlying areas such as Carrington/Flixton in Manchester (Parkers Garden centres) I am at the mercy of B&Q who do not offer any of their compost for home delivery and only advertise a small selection of what they have in store on the diy.com website. Also, if I remember correctly, their delivery charges are somewhere in the region of £25.00.

Sorry no idea where that is! There's this company who advertise free delivery over £30. Never used them personally.

          What about Wickes? Westland Multi-Purpose Compost 50L | Wickes.co.uk
Delivery seems to be £5.95 unless you spend over £50

Ours does, and it's free delivery if you spend over a certain amount.

              Wilkinson do home delivery too

ok, decided on Wickes and filled the basket with my requirements which came to approx. £52 so no delivery charges I thought.
At the checkout stage a delivery charge of £25 was calculated as this was deemed a "bulky order" so no order placed. Will now try the other suggestions given.
Be aware, always read the small print carefully.

That's who I always use -I've never had a bad experience with them, but they're only as good as their local depot - I suppose.

That's useful to know. I've looked at them several times but they don't do what I want in peat free and am unwilling to take a risk on a brand I don't know!
