  • What to grow on allotment now since most things have failed

I'm having a right old year this year, its my 2nd year and most of my courgettes have failed, squashes and cucumbers. my few lettuces that have survived are looking a bit poor and other than a good crop of strawbs, tatties and possible sprouts I have a huge bed still empty and wondering what I could plant in it that will mature autumn/winter?

Is it too late for all types of potatoes or maybe parsnips?

Poor old you - I lost all my tomatoes last year so I know the feeling

Don't know where you are, but last Friday our local garden centres had courgette, squash, cucumber, tomato and chilli plants, plus broccoli, cabbage, pea and bean seedlings.

You could also sow salad things (if it's not too hot) like lettuce, salad leaves, radish or chard, turnips and some types of peas.

    Good luck

      Get some spuds in asap...

Where are you?...could you please put your location into your profile!!

If you are on the north of Scotland we'll be giving you very different advice from if you are in France for example!!

Don't be disheartened by your failures..you need to work out why they failed and if/how you can prevent the same thing from happening next year!!!

I think you can still buy leek plants, they will see you through the winter.

You could always prepare the ground ready for an autumn planting of brassica's.

Not too late for French beans, spring onions, Florence fennel, purple sprouting broccoli, oriental leaves like mizuna, kale, radish, beetroot, carrots, after the heat of summer you can sow more lettuce.
Just loads of stuff you can still grow

Pak Choi is very easy to grow, but harvest them young because in the hot weather they are going to seed quickly (well mine are)
