Hey guys!
Very new to this my dad has given me half of his new allotment, I'm 25 and my partner and I have a son of 3 yrs and though this could be great to teach him a lot about food, growing ect..

Anyways!

We nearly have it ready (ish) to start frowning but would really like some advise and what's the best/right thing to be planing this time of the year....

& iv been taking lots if pictures along the ways so could also bore you with them when I'm finished 😋

For starters, you could be thinking about what garlic and overwintering onion sets you need to order for planting in October...

Hello, Jodi (and chap, kiddy, old pop etc.) - welcome to the Vine.

As Trip says, you may want to think about overwintering garlic and onions; and brassica seedlings are available in the garden centres now. BUT all this depends on your climate - would you mind popping your approx location in your profile? It'll help us when we are trying to offer advice.

And yes - pics are good - we're nosy, and never bored by pics.

Yes, welcome from me too. My grandchildren all enjoy doing little jobs in the garden. get planning as what to so for next year. Kids love big seeds like beans and peas as they are easy for little hands.

A good idea is let your little boy have his own little space. Give him something like strawberries or sun flowers to grow. He will love eating the strawberries but also be amazed at the height of the sun flowers.
My two love digging holes. Its amazing how deep they can dig.

Great friendly advice, free and lots of learning to do. Garlic and overwinter onions yes, however I just planted giant winter spinach and last years crop in newcastle area very good so fingers crossed

This was the first day we got the allotment...
All of them had not been used for many years and didn't have fences so that was our first job... So we thought until we found that most of the ground had 3 layers of carpet with mud in between each layer :| ... And it had been raining so you imagine the hard work...
