Running Costs of Your Plot

Hi all, just wondering if any of you keep a record of how much you spend each year on your allotment?

Over this year I've spent approx £365 ( give or take the occasional impulse seed purchase), however for that I've acquired 2 polytunnels, 2 4x6 greenhouses, a biscuit tin full of seeds, tonnes of compost, a shed and tools, plus a massive pile of good quality building wood which has been used to produce raised beds and still have enough to build a second shed from scratch.

Considering the cost of many hobbies, I think thats quite reasonable for the year, especially since we've got a freezer full of produce out of it - with more to come and cost will obviously be much less next year since our major purchases should last for a few years.

He doesn't know how much I spend on beekeeping either though.

Nope. Over the last 2 years I've spent about £2k on the plot - bear in mind I had no tools whatsoever, no shed, no fruit bushes/trees, no gh, no seeds, gloves, wellies - nothing at all. I am calculating how much I harvest, and have so far got well over 100kg and about £350 in produce. This is before the saffron kicks in...I reckon it will all even out in a couple of years, as next year's spend looks to be about £100 max.

I have no idea. I grew bits at home before I got my allotment so had quite a few bits before I managed to get a plot.
Think though the most expensive thing has been the shed. Waited for about 12 months to see if we could find one second hand but couldn't so ended up buying on. Think the most money after that must be on compost at the start of the year.

two years into my plot and the most i spent is on a shed £2oo most tools i allready had other bits and bobs where birthday and xmas pressies the cost in blood sweat and tears ........still working on that

I have absolutely no idea, I know some will say its about thrift and I dont spend for the sake of it. Even if I did calculate the cost it would fall far short of the pleasure and enjoyment it gives me.

What value could you possibly put on tasting the sweet fresh produce nutured my your very own hands?
