  • Compost

Not sure if there are any homebrewers on here but here goes.

I have just bottled this years Christmas ale, and was wondering if I could put the spent hops and grains in the compost bin, along with all the sludge from the bottom of the fermentation bucket.

    Thanks

Sure can mate. I get loads of FREE spent hops from a local micro brewery... got 12 sacks last week. some are covering my muck heap, some in the daleks, some scattered round me spring cabbages as slugs hate hops, and a load on top of cardboard on an empty bed.
They are slow to rot down, but what the heck, they are free.

When I made home brew I poured the slops on the hydrangea and turned it from blue to red and was a great plant.

In that case it changed the pH of the soil. The lovely blue flowers will only happen in acidic soil which Is why so many people grow them in pots.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

if it came from nature (ie, it wasn't man-made) then it can be returned to the soil
