I have five Daleks on my allotment. Over the last week or so I have noticed that all have worms around the outside rim when I lift the lid off. I'm talking loads of worms, falling to the ground when I take the lid off. Looks like they are trying to "escape"! Any ideas what's causing this?

Mine do it too, and I thought they were escaping the heat of the compost, as sometimes it gets very warm. TS could be right though, 'cos they could always go down into the older compost to escape the heat if they were too warm.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.

Is your compost rather wet?
I believe worms go to the centre of a cold heap
the edge of a hot heap,
the ground under a dry heap
and to the lid above a wet heap
Certainly in a wormery they go up ahead of heavy rain (as they would if in the ground) to avoid drowning.

but they do go up ahead of rain in the wormery so they may just be predicting a deluge rather than reacting to one?

They are always clinging to the lid, so I shake em on the soil outside the dalek so they can enjoy another ride... Must be like Alton Towers to them.
