  • A New Wheel For My Barrow

    Afternoon

I was wondering why wheel barrows have tyres rather than a firmer wheel.

The wheel I currently have is flatter than a pancake and was thinking of replacing it with the back wheels from my daughters wheel chair (that she no longer uses - I'm not that mean!) They are about the same size so it should fit the barrow, just wondering if there was any particular reason I should avoid doing this

    Thanks

Fix the puncture Mumbles. It will be a lot softer ride, I have used both & would go for tyre & innertube every time.

there is no innertube. I have the plastic bit in the middle and a tyre - it's an inherited barrow

      thanks for your answer

I had a similar problem Mumbles and one of the suggestions was to use Slime for puncture repair.

I find wheelbarrows with pneumatic tyres much less effort to use than ones with solid tyres.

I keep a spare inner tube, or two, as they get punctured from time to time - particularly if I trim something with spines like Pyracanthus as inevitably some spiny bits are left on the ground and are exactly where the wheelbarrow tyre next runs!
