companies pay these people to search for words connected to their product and then they use it to target their advert at any forum that has used that word.

Penny's dropped now, thanks. If Acme Spuds appears in the text of the message then higher probability that an advert from Acme Spuds would appear at the top of the page. (I know how those systems work, t'is part of my Day Job, just didn't make the connection earlier - Doh!)

But ... there are adverts anyway, not sure it makes any difference if they are from Acme Spuds or Garden Loungers?

My actual issue is that I am dyslexic, and I'd much prefer that company names etc. were not disguised in that way as it often takes me a while to work out what the original was (same with Norty Words which are swapped for "humorous equivalents" on some forums, leaves me completely snookered - actually, on some forums there is an profile preference option to see "original / adult! version" and I always choose that as I'm not easily shocked and much easier for me, personally, to read.

its a little more sinister than that kristen because the ones that taget forums actualy logon to the forum and place a message under a new ID name and then make up a message related to the product. So if you mention your buying a new wimwam for a custard mill, they will construct a message such as "Hey guys I just bought a new wimwam! it was only £596 from (Link). This is then uploaded into a thread. So as i understand it the mods have to delete both the message and the new users ID.
These are often zapped by our mods before we see them but some times we can get spam in our private messages too.


Relating to the tin shed, the modern corrugated iron seems to be absolute rubbish at one time a sheet was so heavy it was hard to pick up and lasted 30 years. The modern stuff is more galvanising than steel and you can dent it with your thumb (nearly).
