My 'lottie' is now in my back gardem

When we were in the UK, we had a couple of sites ( not at the same time) and both were within a 5 minute car drive.
We had 2 young children at the time, so it was very handy if we had to nip back home.

10 minute bike ride, which is quite far enough in bad weather

I find it quite interesting that those who have lotties are all really quite close.
I wonder if people would be as keen to put their names down for one if they were offered one that was 5+ miles away?

I put my name down on several sites. The one I got offered was second choice although I got offered my first choice a few months later as they didn't coordinate the list. Thought about swapping but realised I didn't want to throw away the hard work and that the other site, although in theory more conveniently located, was very committee driven with loads of rules and regulations so I was much better where I was. Interesting that people who grow at home see this as a real positive whereas I see being away from home as a plus as I have no distractions and it's unlikely anybody will find me. Lovely to escape and mentally recharge

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

For me, there were more "people" distractions at the allotment, there are none at home. Going to the plot was an effort, I had to make time to do it. My garden is always there, just outside the door. My little bit of paradise.
However, if I didn't have a garden, I'd be looking for a lottie, not to escape, but to grow veg.

I originally got mine for growing and that's the prime objective but the escaping from it all and associated boost to my mental health were a really wonderful and unexpected benefit

I love the fact that my allotment is away from my home. It means that I can escape the kids for a few hours...heaven

It used to be 6 miles away, then we moved and luckily I got a new plot very quickly, i've just measured and it's 200m away

Makes the whole experience a million times better (not that I have been able to do much yet as I have only had it a few months).

I used to have one that was 2.5 miles away, so a drive. But my allotment in London is a 3 min walk away
