  • Spacing of peas rows

What spacing do others use between rows of peas. Seems to be conflicting views on this as far as I can see 6", 12"", 18", 24". I was thinking on 24" to give me room to pick and thought the plants would not want to be too close together.

I make a spade width trench and drop the peas in about 2- 3 ins apart, 10/12 peas to a foot run, and leave 18 ins to 2ft between the trenches - if that makes sense?

Yes that makes perfect sense. Think I've been reading too many different views.

Not sure, I grow tall peas and only one row. It's quite a long row... If I were to grow more than one row they'd shade each other and I don't have enough trellis anyway...

I know it doesn't affect everybody, however you may want to consider protection when it comes to spacing.

The birds at our allotments will have them scoffed in an instant.

It's not a major issue - but I would factor in netting and ease of access when planning to sow/plant your peas.

I have to protect the peas (until they get about a foot tall) from the wabbits. The pigeons so far have left them alone.

Cats may poop in your ground but at least they don't eat your hard work.

Yes we have a problem with pigeons etc. so everything is netted.

As I get older and find I am not as supple as I used to be I tend to plant things further apart than recommended to give myself more room to manoeuver for weeding and harvesting.
