Getting out stones in the ground

When i started to turn over a small bit of the ground at the bottom of my garden i noticed that there is quite a lot of bigish stones whats the best way to get these out so i have some decent soil.

they are about the size of a 2 inch pot

could i make some sort of frame with chicken wire on top and sieve it through that ?

Sounds good. I doubt that chicken wire is durable enough for this, Weld Mesh perhaps? as it is a lot more rigid.
