  • Boarder Question

    I have shed near one end of my 10 pole polt, and small patch behind the shed. there were no fence between the opposite plot behid the shed. but both sides out our plotes has fence. I can not make a fence in the same line as the opposite plot holder built a shed crossing the adjucent plots fence line. on top of it he alo put his compost block moveble one further into my side. What shall I do now. shall I make a fence

    1. along with the adjucent fence line leaving his shed as it is.
    2. along with the back of his shed
    3.fence along with his composter and single onion plant further into my plot than to shed?

    I guess the decision is not going to effect just two of use but future plot holders of our current plots If I/we have to give up the plot for any reasons.

    I do not know how the person reacts If I ask the same question to him, he made a shed recently may be just before I take this plot up. and I do not want to push the shed back anyway. talking to admin team would be good? dont want to show up like too greedy for the space .

    want make as much as possible to not end up a naroow patch to put the currents,berry bushes that loves sunny sheltered space, and grape vine in this area so wider the better as much possible.

    Speak to your site manager. If your next door neighbour has taken some of your plot he needs to know. Don't decide on what to do until you know where your exact boundaries are.

      Thanks Scarlet, I thought of asking but felt If I am thinking too much about a 2 or 3 feet width and site admin team might think of it as silly matter.

      Intially I informed my one of neighbouring plotholder who is also a secretory about adjucent plots 3 fruit trees blocking the edge path entirely and can not walk stright with out stepping into beds in those areas, he checked and felt the same so written to the tenent. after that I thought of asking to ignore it as they might take it offense, but before I could say any those extended branches been pruned, and surely they took it bit hard. that is why I would like to check twice with you all before talking to any.

        Isn't there a saying about good fences and neighbours. I would get the boundaries clearly defined. Doesn't matter how much or little land you are talking about.

          Yes Wendy, Thank you .

          I just covered the space between the sheds with black plastic as I have extra spare at the moment. think the other plot's tenent in this discussion dint expected this. he actually using more space behind his shed as well to keep his spare roofing etc, initially I thought I must leave it to him though shed it self looks occupied some of my space if at all I have to make the fence inline with my next plots.

            Why don't you speak to the neighbour? I would much rather somebody spoke to me directly than when behind my back and reported it - I know that's not how you mean it but that's how it would feel to me. It may well be that the plot holder doesn't know they've encroached. Going to the committee to me seems a bit like phoning the police because your neighbours have a party when knocking on their door and talking to them about the noise would be much easier and conducive to a good relationship.

            Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

            Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

              I prefer to avoid formal reporting, that's the intention of this post,however I want to make sure my boarder from authority, as I am a new tenent and he was there for couple of years. his shed is actually few months old, as he gave up one plot next to it and had new shed and other things in this plot. I do not want to ask him to move his shed.but make fence on both sides of shed or just at same line with shed atleast.

              It may well be that the plot holder doesn't know they've encroached.
              I have covered the place behind my shed with black plastic ,and he seems unimpressed with it for sure, yet he doesn't know that have plan in making fence and/or compost area which is open area at the moment and partially cleaned and used from his end.

                  You have to be firm about boundaries. It seems many people just can't wait to pinch an inch and it is just not right. Don't back down because you don,t like conflict, they didn't consider you when they encroached on your plot. Another way is to suggest to the allotment manager you have a rent reduction because you are not getting what you are paying for. i think you might find he will take action without you being involved.

                    When we moved to our current house one of the first things we did was replace the fence panels. The posts were ok so we're left and anyway the boundary is a straight line from the corner of our house to the bottom fence post. Our then neighbour complained we had moved the fence as some of her plants were now under the fence! I was able to show her a photo from upstairs, which clearly showed how she had piled the soil up against the fence over the years, producing a scalloped effect along the fence line. All we did was put it back straight! She wasn't happy but had nothing to back her cause.

                      Wendy, can we think of boarders at home and allotment with same importance?? the borader plot holder want to make best use of the place so He tried to put his shed on other end in the middle of established fruit plants. so to adjust it comfortiable with them he moved the shed to my side it seems. further to it he directed his shed door to its side, and there again he wanted to have compost and a corner patch. compost block should n't come to his shed entrance it seems, so he moved the compost block more to my side than to shed. rather he can have compost thing on the corner not so much cultivated corner .

                      Noone was around in my plot last year, so he had no objections for what so ever. now I am inline thinking we tenents are not permanant but boarders could be permanant right? are is it good idea to just ignore it and stick to what ever is available? we mostly do not see each other is what I understood now after I have started using the space on the back of my shed. do not want a silent war though!
