  • Green manure and crop rotation

I'm using several types of green manure on the allotment (buckwheat, vetches, clover, field beans and so on). On the field beans packet, it says that they "fit in with beans in crop rotation".
Now, I'm not sure if this means you use it in the season after you've grown beans in the plot, or instead of growing beans in the rotation.
Common sense makes me assume the latter (so plant it in a plot that's had roots in it, and follow that with brassicas)
Can anyone set me right on this?

    Thanks
    Caro

As far as I know you use it where your beans would be in the rotation. That's what I am doing.
I have almost finished my last of 4 5mx1m beds. The unfinished is going to be for legumes and already has peas and french beans at one end so was thinking of legume as green manure for the rest. I already have runner beans in another section of the allotment.
No matter:the allotment is lovely, the tadpoles have legs, my sea kale has germinated and I am glad to be home.

Yes I read it as grow it with your beans too,so next year that area will be most rich in nitrogen.
