Debris Netting Fence

Hi all.

I have a 250sqm plot which I have had for 6 months.

It was really overgrown when I took it on and the plots either side of mine are also overgrown. I've brought somw debris netting to enclose my plot and well because someone else has done the same and it looks good however now I'm left wondering how I am going to build this fence. The other plot uses wood but as my plot is considerably bigger I'm wondering if there is any cheaper alternatives?

Hello Decee & welcome to the vine. Wood is the cheapest way to go whether it be old dismantled pallets or Hazel branches. You can staple or cable tie the netting to the timber. You could use old metal tubing if you can get hold of any & cable tie the netting to that................Basically use anything you can get your hands on, look up Freegle in your area, you'll be surprised what folks give away.

I'm new to this allotmenting but already feel it has given me a new purpose in life.

I've got so many plans for my patch but just taking it each project at a time. Already got a polytunnel up and growing a few things. Built a huge growing table out of pallets and a over complicated compost bin.

Our association has been giving a grant to improve soil quality and my plot has been ear marked for improvement as it is prone to flooding so really can't do alot in terms of veh patches until the soil arrives so cracking on with what I can do for now.

Thank you for your idea about branches. I followed your advice and noticed on an abandoned plot a few trees that have been cut down so gained permission to use these branches. It also feels more natural using these. How long will these last? Our allotment unofficially allows the use of postcrete as long as it's disgussed by mud so thinking to use a little on each branch post for extra strength?

Really looking forward to getting this done. Everyone else has green so I went for bright red to make it more colourful.

If you can get hold of some empty compost bags, put the bottom of each branch in a bag before burying. It may just help them last a tad longer.
