Can anyone recommend some nettle proof gloves?

My allotment is being overrun by nettles, I bought some pretty gardening gloves thinking they would help, they appear to only be decorative for all the protection they've given me. The nettles have managed to sting me through my jeans and and jumper, so I think I'm going to need elbow high super thick gloves at this rate!

I use leather builders's gloves. They are quite pricey but last for ages and are strong enough to protect against pretty much anything.

Also drink nettle tea twice a day while you're doing it. They contain anti histamines and it'll really help with the stinging. My OH dug them up from a lot of our plot, had nettle rash all up his arms and nettle tea sorted it.

I bought my dad a nice pair of leather type,tough material gloves,near elbow length from wyeva1e,think they were about £10 but worth investing in quality gloves because some thistles are painful!! I used them to cut through a load of thistles at theirs & they were great,it's nice to have your arm covered a bit for protection.

Agree with others. I purchased a leather pair and they have been ace.

Even a pair of heavy duty rubber gloves would help in the interim. Plus they have a gauntlet to protect your arms a bit......Plus flippers wet suit and goggles.....sorry got carried away there.
Don't forget they are great to put them on your compost heap minus any flowery seedy bits of course.

Welding gauntlets do the job. No use for anything else, as they're too thick and inflexible, but they're great for nettles, thistles and brambles.

It's not a pretty solution, but I wear a pair of marigolds under my normal gardening gloves for nettles. They are no good for brambles, but they will cope with nettles and thistles, and I'm a cheapskate.

I do have gloves for pulling up nettles - I only remember about them after I've done it so have no efficient they are (although I'd hazzard a guess that they'd be more efficient on my hands rather than in the shed).

Still, nettles are supposed to be good for arthritis and the Romans used to thrash themselves with nettles to promote blood circulation.

Depending on how many nettles they are I usually pull them out with my fingers about a cm below ground, there is no sting down there and usually come out quite well. Failing that I use workmens gloves they have a plastic coating all over and a cotton cuff. I got them off ebay for £1

Thanks everyone Looks like welding/workgloves for me then. Interesting thought about nettle tea, I've not heard that before, and my circulation could do with improving but not sure it's worth the sting!

Rubbing plantain leaves on also helped. I got a long line of stings down my arm yesterday, a bit of plaintain leaf mashed up and put on, and the bumps had disappeared in a few minutes.

Also dont throw them out - use them for nettle fertiliser

Ive got loads and plan to keep a patch for just for that purpose
