  • Just saying hi!

I've been lurking for a few weeks now, so I thought I'd take the plunge and say hi! I got my allotment plot in December after putting my name down on a whim, and had to wait a massive two weeks before getting allocated one!

It's a half plot that I would say hasn't been worked for at least 6 months. It's infested with couch grass and half the previous plot holders crops were still in the ground! As I know from reading that you love a photo, here's mine on the day I signed the lease:

Having only grown veg in pots, all this space will be a luxury!

The half up near the shed has been dug over, weeded & covered with permeable membrane to keep the weeds down - it's been very mild here in Essex!
The rest will need to be dug over and a lot of the couch grass cleared by hand - I might as well try and do it properly! I'm keeping the strawberry bed, and grape vine but everything else crop wise has gone. There's also a load of raspberry cane spread everywhere, but as I have no idea as to the variety, I might only keep one or two. I do have some more canes on order, along with some blueberries.

I need to get 25% under cultivation by March, but I've been assured this just means dug over. I've some raised beds being delivered (found them in a sale), so I may put them up by the shed and just try some square foot gardening this year, while I work out exactly what I want where.
