    Hi all!
Just wanted to share with you all this attachment for spades and forks I found on amazon and actually bought it. It apparently saves your back but so far what I've noticed is that you can't make as much effort as without as you use different muscles ..

If I remember correctly, Bigmallly made something similar from a bit of hosepipe.
I'm sure he'll be along later to provide a link.

Looks awkward to me. I'll be interested so see how you get on. Can't help thinking that if they were so good, we'd all have been using them for years.

What does it do? It hasn't got any reviews and looks like a heap of plastic to me. I'd be interested if anyone else has bought it...

It fastens onto the shaft of the spade so when digging, instead of grabbing the bottom of the spade, you lift it with the handle. The strain is then on your arms as opposed to your back.

Well, I have to say don't agree with you Wendy. Every now and then I find fantastic tools or adaptations that make my life easier and they are not wide spread. eg: dough whisk (just an example that came to my mind quickly
Also some tools are favoured in some countries/cultures and not in others which not necessarily means they are good or bad, eg: azada

On the other hand I had to turn a compost heap today and used the usual simple fork

It's each to their own. I do think it could be useful (speaking as somebody with a chronically bad back) but it won't be for everybody. I don't use most of the tools I bought and especially since I built the raised beds, it's mostly a hand trowel, fork, rake and hoe although I do like the long handled three prong cultivator for getting the beds prepared.

If it works for you though then that's great.
Posted on an iPad so apologies for any randomly auto-corrected gobbledegook
